This article discusses invasive meningococcal disease, its substantial sequelae, and the importance of early diagnosis and treatment. Also discussed is the prevention of invasive meningococcal disease through immunisation including vaccine access and funding. This review has been commissioned by Pfizer New Zealand Limited.
